soap

I partnered with Adam from the Laughing Turtle Soap company in Albuquerque to make a new Organic Honey Soap! It contains Bee Chama’s Raw, Unfiltered Honey and Beeswax, along with the organic Essential Oils of Lavender & Tea Tree. Enjoy the petals of real Calendula Flowers on your skin as this soap creates a moisture-loving lather. I use this primarily on my hands and feet, because using any soap on my face can dry my skin and cause breakouts. But it’s critical that I wash my hands well (with this soap!) before touching my face! Use it on your hands and body and enjoy the rich lather and soothing aroma!

You can buy the soap for $8 plus shipping and handling by clicking on this button: Capture2

Lemongrass & Calendula Foot Rub

_DSC0034

“Last week I was at your store and bought some Comfrey Salve for my feet.  You let me try the Emu oil stick. I will say it was fantastic.  I let four other people try the product and they too said it was an almost instant heal for them.  I will be out in the next few weeks for some more. Thank you, Charlene”

The Emu Oil Stick she’s describing was a totally new product I just created that morning for a friend who told me that she finds it easier to apply moisturizer to her feet when she uses a stick. When Charlene arrived at the store and told me she needed more of the Comfrey Salve because she’s been using it on her feet, I asked her to try this new product as well. It was a Giving Jar, and I was excited to share this exquisite animal oil (the rest of my oils are plant-based). My friend raises the Emus and harvests the oil herself, so I know where the ingredient comes from, and the research speaks for itself.

Community Projects

Wondering what you are supporting? There are a lot of community projects going on around here.

A formerly-houseless friend now has a house to rent. A nice quiet adobe fixer-upper in our nearby town. Another formerly-houseless friend who is now living with us celebrated another birthday. With a ton of food and the whole neighborhood. I’m still eating cake. There will be 4 birthdays this month. A traveler got a new sturdy hiking pack for his long trip south, and a puppeteer came to the farm to learn about beekeeping so that she can start an apiary as part of a community project in New York City. My little pony, Bella, has been giving all the neighborhood kids a ride around the yard, and we have a group from a women’s correctional facility coming out to learn how to start a beehive in the prison yard.  It’s true! In July, (with help from my neighbor Jen, thanks Jen!) we did a fundraiser for the local homeless shelter, selling lip balms and raw honeys at the park. We raised about $600 that provided warm meals and diverse assistance to people throughout the county of Socorro. At the end of July we took a road trip all the way up through 8 different states into Idaho, meeting lots of travelers and interesting folks along the way. There are always opportunities to give or share: a meal together, food, friendship, underwear, socks, and of course honey and skin care…

On another note, we have a new neighbor that is a gardener, and he’s been bringing us everything from climbing jade plants to lemon balm and bags of veggies from his garden. He knows all about herbs and tinctures, and has a library of plant reference books that would make a botanist jealous. This is an exciting development for me. I also started working with a blueberry farm in Washington to create a new organic product line, and it will be on the website later this week. Facials, mud masks and honey scrubs. It’s all delicious.

I’d like to think that one day we (you and me & everyone) will be able to gather together on pieces of land throughout the country and create more alternative lives that we love. Work with each other, our earth, our resources, our friends… Build, grow, heal, recover, restore.

Maybe somehow when we do all these little things, (like socks and meals and sharing)  really what we’re doing is practicing that dream. Making and giving gifts is, after all, an alternative to the independent theology of consumerism… Education is the greatest poverty prevention…. It seems as though all the solutions to the big ‘problems’ are going to spring up out of the little choices we make every day. So keep on spreading the love out there in all of your unique and different ways. The world will re-create itself with all of our bits of life. Let’s make it good 🙂

Royal Raspberry Honey Facial

_DSC0033 (5)

An alternative to my Blueberry Bright Facial, this one smells like Raspberry Tea! And I love the way it evens out my complexion.

Natural Ingredients: Rose Clay, Raspberry Leaf & Royal Jelly

Mix 1 TSP of powder with 1 TSP of water. You can add more water or more powder until you get the consistency you like. Even add a dollop of honey (this is my style. Antimicrobial properties & it smells so yummy) and a squirt of lime juice! Apply it as a thick mud for best results, and it will dry within 10-15 minutes.  The detoxifying and regenerating qualities of this mask are perfect for people with all skin types. Remove it by soaking in the shower or over your sink, and enjoy your rejuvenated complexion!

Giving Jars, Feeding Back

Throughout this process, I’ve been receiving emails and letters from people who have been using these products. Thank you! Some of you have sent me useful suggestions, great ideas, fantastic stories and a lot of hope. I realized that this a platform is designed for sharing those stories along with the products, so I’ve gotten permission from a few folks to post their comments on this page. This week I’ll be sending out email surveys to a few of you who have been using these products for awhile now, particularly if you’ve purchased more than once or if I met you along the road to where I stand. I value your opinion.

To start the ball rolling, this is  from a friend in Costa Rica that is using a Giving Jar of Lavender Recovery Recipe to treat a skin condition  on his arms. Now he’s got another use for it:

“I had been having very painfull cramps in my feet during the night for many years and a few weeks ago they came back i had the cream that Shea gave me and used it as the cramps begun. They stopped, i could not believe it. Last night the cramps begun again i used the cream again and the cramps immediately stopped. Thank you.”

Here’s another one from a woman who came into the farm store here in New Mexico:

“Last week I was at your store and bought some Comfrey Salve for my feet.  You let me try the Emu oil stick. I will say it was fantastic.  I let four other people try the product and they too said it was an almost instant heal for them.  I will be out in the next few weeks for some more. Thank you,
Charlene”

The Emu Oil Stick she’s describing was a totally new product I just created that morning for a friend who told me that she finds it easier to apply moisturizer to her feet when she uses a stick. When Charlene arrived at the store and told me she needed more of the Comfrey Salve because she’s been using it on her feet, I asked her to try this new product as well. It was a Giving Jar, and I was excited to share this exquisite animal oil (the rest of my oils are plant-based). My friend raises the Emus and harvests the oil herself, so I know where the ingredient comes from, and the research speaks for itself.

Note: Since I received Charlene’s email, I’ve finished the product formulation and it’s currently available at the Bee Chama Farm Store in Lemitar New Mexico for $12. The Lemongrass & Calendula Foot Rub with Emu & Argan oil will be available for purchase online later this week.

Here’s another letter I received from a friend who purchased two of the Honey Lip Balms:

“WOW!  I am a pretty huge lip balm addict and I’ve tried so many different kinds.  My favorite one in the world got discontinued awhile ago and I am down to the bottom of my very last pot.  I kept trying to find a new one that was just as good and I didn’t really like anything I tried until I got yours!  Seriously, it is the BEST lip balm I’ve ever used, and it’s a fraction of the cost of most of the ones I’ve tried, and the only one with no scary-sounding ingredients that I don’t even recognize.  It tastes great (cream soda is my favorite soda ever!), the consistency is perfect, and it stays on forever.  I love it so much!  I plan to order it regularly, so watch out, LOL. ”

All of this makes me smile… makes my heart happy. It’s why I want to do keep doing this. Thank you all for supporting me in this adventure, and if you have any Feed Back of your own, please send it to SheaByShay@gmail.com

Blueberry Bright Seaweed Facial

_DSC0047 (5)Amazing! It tightens and brightens, exfoliates and draws out toxins. I can’t say enough good things, so you’ll just have to try it yourself. Here’s some basic research about the ingredients:

Green Clay “drinks” oils, toxins and impurities out of your skin. Blueberry Leaf is packed with antioxidants. Seaweed tones and firms the skin, and is used for full body cellulite masks in beauty spas around the world. Royal Jelly regenerates cells and promotes new skin growth, and increases collagen production. Read the linked articles and find out more!

That’s it for ingredients; no synthetics, preservatives or chemicals. Only the good stuff! Just mix it with water! You can even add a little of our Buckwheat Honey and a squirt of lime juice if you want. The results speak for themselves.

Small glass Jar (2.5 oz)  $20 + $5 shipping and handling

Big glass Jar (4 oz) $30 + $5 shipping and handling

Honey Facials

_DSC0007 (5)I continue to wash my face with honey more frequently than soap. This particular honey, the North American Buckwheat, is one of the most medicinal honeys in the world. We hardly ever have it in stock at the bee farm, because this honey is made in the pacific northwest, a long way from home. We trade for it whenever we can, but we don’t get up to that part of the country very often.

This harvest, when we bottled this honey into half pints and quarts, I decided to jar up the scrubbiest buckwheat that I could get into the jar. All raw honey crystallizes over time; it’s just the glucose and the fructose in the honey rearranging itself. But when crystallized honey is applied to the skin, it becomes a natural exfoliate that will scrub off the dead skin, extra oils, residual makeup, and even bad bacteria. Raw honey is a natural anti-microbial, so it helps with the treatment of acne as well.

When I wash this honey off my face at night, my skin is soft, supple, and it smells (and tastes) like honey.  All good things! Give it a try. I bottled some of this scrubby buckwheat into 1oz jars, the perfect size for facials a few times a week for a month or so. It only take a little dollop on your finger! Run it under the water before you start scrubbing…. And then let me know what you think!

Update: After more than a year of offering this product along with 3 other varieties of facial scrubs, I’ve found that the Cat Claw Honey with Lavender oil is the best seller. (Very scrubby & the smell is so relaxing!) I also offer a Carrot & Citrus smooth face wash that has had great results. If you would like to try either the Lavender or the Carrot, just let me know in the notes of your purchase.
